Isaac
Abraham and his wife, Sarah, loved God and obeyed Him. God watched over them, took care of them and blessed them. Abraham became very rich and had many animals and workers. Despite their riches, Abraham and Sarah were very sad because they had no children and were already very old. God had promised to give Abraham and Sarah a child someday. God always keeps His promises. Even though Sarah was very old, she had a baby boy. They were very happy! They named the baby Isaac, which means "laughter". Isaac was a special child. [Abraham and Sarah]
Memory Verse:
The Lord is faithful to all his promises. ~ Psalm 145:13

Abraham and Sarah watched Isaac grow bigger and stronger. One day, God told Abraham to sacrifice Isaac. Abraham loved Isaac very much but he also loved God. Abraham and Isaac went up to the mountain as God had told them to do. Isaac did not try to run away because he loved God, too. Both Isaac and Abraham showed their faith and love for God in their obedience. Because of this, God stopped the sacrifice and saved Isaac at the last minute. God said, "Now I know you love me more than anything in this world." God provided a ram for them to sacrifice instead. By providing the ram, God showed them how much He loved them and that he was willing to provide for them.
The Lord provides for you, too. What are some things that God has provided for you? Let's do a craft to see. Here's how.
Materials:
- paper (Construction paper, or plain paper)
- crayons
Directions:
- Think about some of the things that God has provided for you. He has provided food to eat, a home to live in, a family who loves you, good friends, etc.
- Draw a frame around the edge of your paper. In the frame, draw all about some of the things God has provided for you. Don't forget that God has provided His love and gave His only son.
Memory Verse:
The Lord will provide. ~ Genesis 22:14
Questions:
- What did Abraham and Sarah name their child?
- What was sacrificed on the mountain?
- Who provided for Abraham, Sarah, and Isaac?
- What has God provided for you?
